Refinishing Wood chair by Shapira Builders
Refinishing wood chairs
It takes few steps to refinish woodwork.
First step is dusting and cleaning.
Second step, light sanding.
Next step is wiping the woodwork with mineral spirit.
The fourth step is mixing tung oil and stain.
Three parts of stain and one part of tung oil.
Freely brush the mixture on the wood using natural bristles brush.
There is nothing to worry about, this mixture has a very slow dry time.
Just keep brushing as the wood keeps absorbing until it looks good to you.
You may add more stain to get a darker shade.
In the next following days, just add few more coats of tung oil.
Allow few days for the oily application to cure and dry to the touch.
For exterior application like the chair in the picture, I do NOT recommend finishing with polyurethane .
The polyurethane will flake off at some point.
However, you will have to apply tung oil once a year or as needed, this way it will always look natural and will reserve the beauty of the wood.

It is easy
Nice looking chairs!
Thank you
You make it sound easy to refinish a chair. Thanks for sharing the process and products.
Thank you too
Now, that is a great idea that I can do.
Enjoy it
It takes patience to refinish furniture, no wonder my projects are few and far between. Tung oil is a great product.
Thank you
I made the mistake once of not sanding and cleaning the chair. That was a big mistake, lol… Now, I just leave it to the pros like you Dov!
🙂
My mom refinished a coffee table once. She is very impatient and you could see all the streaks from the stain.
Patience is a must
Dov Shapira my mom has always lacked that.
Oh boy
I LOVE how this looks! Great instruction! Thanks!
Good to know ~ I was just about to refinish the bench on the front porch with polyurethane, because the original coat has all flaked off!
Kathi Ogden add me as a friend and I will give you more tips.
Thank you Loretta Smith
That is SO SWEET, Dov Shapira!
Those chairs look great! We have a bench that has been destroyed in the back yard from weather..I wonder if we can get it fixed so they can look as awesome as your chairs:)
I bet you can Daniele Holmberg

I love wooden chars due to their natural look. You make it seem easy to do this lol, I think I would ask my son to do it if I needed to.

Nice chairs. I have a couple to do that sit on our front porch. My summer project.
Thank you
Wish I had chairs like this..

Happy Monday! You know, of course, that you make this look easy! And you know, of course that the outcome is always better when a professional (like you) does it. Thanks for the course, but I'll be asking you to come and refinish my bench in the fall.
You're sweet Tina Ashburn
Thank you
I love this simple step-by-step process. I will forward this to my husband!

This is very good information. We had tried the polyurethane and it did peel. it is a lot of work to keep nice wood furniture!
